Ka’Deem Carey

Most felt he was just another failed Phil Emery pick.  Looking at his stats from last year, that would feel justified.  In truth though, Ka’Deem Carey performed better and better as the season grew late.  It was clear he was running with more power, effort and authority.  He was the thunder to Jeremy Langford’s lightning.  It would seem running backs coach Stan Drayton agrees.

"“[Carey] is an example of playing with a passion, carrying the flag of the culture of the organization, playing reckless, hard and never taking for granted the opportunity that he has on a daily basis. He’s that guy,” Drayton said. “I tell you the light came on last year the moment he was inactive. That hurt him. His response was to go out there and be the best practice back that he can be. “When his number was called and Matt [Forte] got hurt during the middle part of the season, he was ready. Just a prime example of not giving up, keeping the passion alive.”"

Expectations were that Carey was in line to become the #2 back behind Langford this season since the two formed a solid pair with Matt Forte injured in 2015.  The arrival of rookie Jordan Howard seems to have quieted that talk, at least in the local media and fan chat sessions.  Seems the Bears brass feel different.
