New York Jets (4-12)

Biggest Strength:  Defense

On paper this group is every bit as loaded as it was last season.  Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams spearhead a dominant front.  Darrelle Revis patrols the back end at corner.  It’s a group long on talent and experience.  Throw in Todd Bowles as their head coach, a respected defensive mind and there’s no reason to think they won’t perform well.

Biggest Weakness:  Quarterback

Ryan Fitzpatrick still hasn’t signed a new contract and it’s becoming clearer that he may never do so.  That means the Jets could go into 2016 with Geno Smith as their projected starter.  Chrisitian Hackenberg is their future but he’s far from being ready to play.  It would be foolish to throw him into the fire too soon.  If it does end up being Smith, that doesn’t bode well.

Final Record Reason

Aside from the questions at quarterback, which are considerable, the Jets are also dealing with a significant age problem.  Three of their best players are also the oldest in David Harris (32), Brandon Marshall (32), and Nick Mangold (32).  Matt Forte and Darrelle Revis are also 30.  Older teams tends to wear down faster in the NFL, and also get hurt more often.  Not a typical formula for a successful team.
