2016 NFL Season: Final Record Predictions For All 32 Teams
By Erik Lambert
New York Giants (9-7)
Biggest Strength: Secondary
On paper at least this should be true. The Giants have added some significant upgrades to the back end of their defense. Janoris Jenkins arrives via free agency at corner. He’ll be joined by 1st round pick Eli Apple while the safety position got an underrated boost from 3rd round pick Darian Thompson. They join Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Landon Collins to form a group that has plenty of talent.
Biggest Weakness: Running Backs
This used to be a position that New York churned out like a factory with names like Frank Gifford, Joe Morris and Tiki Barber. These days it’s been a collection of underwhelmers. Rashad Jennings has seen his best years pass by. Andre Williams has power but lacks wiggle and speed. Shane Vereen is a chance-of-pace back. There really isn’t a workhorse on the roster they know they can feed, and that’s a problem.
Final Record Reason
The big issue at hand is how this team will respond with Tom Coughlin gone. They won two Super Bowls with him. Was he holding a bad roster together as best he could or was he holding them back? Chances are it was more the latter as even with their free agency spending spree they still can only manage nine wins.
