2016 NFL Free Agency: Top Homes For Best Available

facebooktwitterreddit

There are still some big names available on the 2016 NFL free agency market.  What are the best possible homes for them?

This article will break down the teams that are the most logical fits both in scheme and style, starting with by far the best quarterback left out there.

Ryan Fitzpatrick:  New York Jets

It’s clear now that Fitzpatrick was meant to play in the Chan Gailey offense, having put up his seasons with the offensive coordinator.  The ongoing impasse between him and the Jets regarding a new contract is helping neither.  Fitzpatrick likely won’t get paid better by any other team and New York knows their quarterback situation could get ugly without him.

Dominique Easley:  New York Giants

Injuries more than anything ended his time in New England, but so did a desire to not play for them as rumors indicate.  The defensive tackle is still just 24-years old.  There is time for him to regain his career if he can find a situation that fits him.  In this case the New York Giants make a ton of sense.  They need more help with their pass rush and feature a scheme he fits.  Best of all they play for the city where he was born.

Greg Hardy:  Cincinnati Bengals

The defensive end is doing everything he can to prove he’s committed to improving his mental health and off-the-field decisions, both of which have gotten him into constant trouble.  It’s a shame too because he can dominate on the field.  If there is one team out there that is about second chances, it’s the Cincinnati Bengals.  Vontaze Burfict and Adam Jones are just two examples of players who came in with bad reputations and have thrived.  Hardy could be another, and the idea of putting him alongside Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap has to appeal.

Arian Foster:  New England Patriots

Time is not on the side of Arian Foster anymore.  The former Pro Bowler has to find a team he can win a championship with before it’s too late.  Not only are the New England Patriots his best choice, but they have a history of getting the most out of veteran running backs who appear to have nothing left.  Given their lack of depth, it’s a move they can’t afford to ignore.

Donte Whitner:  Los Angeles Rams

Losing safety Rodney McLeod was a tough pill to swallow for the Los Angeles Rams.  He was one of their underrated contributors on a good defense.  Replacing him won’t be easy.  Until they find a young option to mold, it might be best if they found a veteran who can fill in this season.  Word is they have interest in Donte Whitner, which makes a ton of sense.  His style and mentality fit the mold of Gregg Williams and Jeff Fisher.

Chris Culliver:  Chicago Bears

Outside of a fourth round pick and a number of undrafted free agents, the Chicago Bears didn’t make any significant additions to their cornerback position.  That is surprising given how inconsistent starters like Kyle Fuller and Tracy Porter were.  Bringing in somebody like Chris Culliver, a veteran who is still young and has experience in Vic Fangio’s defense would only serve to help their cause.

Louis Vasquez:  San Diego Chargers

Even with the addition of veteran Matt Slauson at center, the San Diego Chargers still have question marks along the interior of their offensive line at both guard positions.  Louis Vasquez just got done helping the Denver Broncos win the Super Bowl, is just 29-years old and was actually drafted by the Chargers back in 2009.  A reunion could prove beneficial to both parties.
