TYLER ERVIN. B.
Houston clearly wanted to upgrade the speed of their offense, and Tyler Ervin has plenty of it. He will join the Texans’ backfield in the third position on the depth chart. Lamar Miller was signed during the offseason and he will be the Texans’ lead back, with Alfred Blue presumably at number two.

Ervin will add a dynamic option to the run game, and also contributed as a receiver and kick returner in his time at San Jose State. Houston has lacked explosiveness on special teams, averaging 7.2 yards on punt returns and 23.9 yards on kick returns in 2015. They did not have a single return for a touchdown. Ervin scored five touchdowns on kick and punt returns during his college career.

Ervin may see the most play time as a special teams contributor initially. He will need to get bigger to successfully contribute as a blocker, but his speed and skill set should allow him to compete with Blue for the number two spot down the line.
. RB/KR. San Jose State Spartans
