. VERNON HARGREAVES. B+. Hargreaves is arguably the best corner in this class, depending on what position Jalen Ramsey plays at the next level. The man they call VH3 has excellent ball skills as shown by his ten interceptions over the past three seasons. That is in part due to a good natural awareness for the game and also in part due to fluid athleticism that allows his to adjust to the ball and make a play. Hargreaves is also a very good run defender. He is a physical hitter for a corner and he loves to come up to make a play in run defense.

What makes this pick even better is that the Bucs traded back to get him. Moving down from the ninth overall pick to the eleventh overall pick was a great move for two reasons. The first is obviously because Tampa Bay still got the player they wanted all along. The second is that in a deep draft like this one, the additional fourth round pick they got from the Bears could potentially add a guy who could contribute right away next season.

The only reason this pick isn’t a slam dunk is because Hargreaves comes with some question marks about his athleticism. His 5’10 height leads some to question if he can stop the bigger wide receivers in the NFL. His speed has also been called into question after posting a pedestrian 4.5 time in the 40 yard dash. I’m not as concerned as others about these things because he makes up for them with a great vertical jump and high football IQ, but it is still something that shouldn’t be completely ignored.
.
