With the 2016 NFL Draft officially over, the analytical phase goes underway as we evaluate each franchises draft class and the potential impact each prospect can have on the future. At this point, it’s very difficult to tell how each player will fare in 2016 and beyond, however it’s not impossible. Reviewing each teams draft class, we can make assumptions based on the talent added to their offense or the lack thereof. Some teams may have dire needs at certain positions and failed to find anyone of value, whereas others managed to strengthen and secure those positions going forward.
Either way, it’s time to look three teams that improved their offenses the most and three teams that failed to address key areas of need. Let’s start with the top three who improved their offenses and why.
3. Houston Texans

- Offensive Selections
- Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame
- Nick Martin, C, Notre Dame
- Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State
- Tyler Ervin, RB, San Jose State
The goal was simple for the Houston Texans… Newly-signed quarterback Brock Osweiler and star receiver DeAndre Hopkins were going to need some help if Houston was going to become a playoff contender. This goal eventually became their focus and the draft illustrated that clearly, with the Texans spending their first four picks (rounds 1-4) on offense.
They started at receiver in the first round, grabbing the former Fighting Irish Will Fuller. Known for his speed, Fuller figures to be the guy who can take the top off of defenses and is desperately needed across from Hopkins. He is a big-play waiting to happen and brings coveted scoring ability. However, they didn’t stop there adding Braxton Miller in the third round. Miller is raw, as 2015 was his first season after making the transition from quarterback, but his size, speed, and athletic traits are extremely appealing. He’s also a very effective player with the ball in his hands, adding value as a potential 2nd or 3rd receiver.
To complete their offensive overhaul, the Texans added Nick Martin who figures to start right away at center. Tyler Ervin is a speedy, change-of-pace running back who should compliment newly-signed Lamar Miller nicely.
Overall, the Texans did a nice job of compiling talent to compliment the current status of their roster.
