Oakland Raiders Go Up To Get Connor Cook

The Oakland Raiders are one of those teams that understand the value of having talented quarterbacks, and they proved that in the 4th round of the 2016 draft.

Even with Derek Carr in place, there is always the risk of injury and having a good backup is at a premium in the NFL.  That would explain why they jumped ahead of the Dallas Cowboys to swipe Michigan State’s Connor Cook, a player who had 1st round projections when the draft started.

Here is what the Mocks scouting network had to say about the player the Silver and Black got.

"“No matter what you do on the field, your legacy is dependent on one thing and that’s wins. Connor Cook has only been a part of four games in which he did not win for a record of 32-4 in his collegiate career.  Another great thing about Cook is his touchdown to interception ratio. In all three of his seasons as a starting QB for MSU Cook has never thrown less than 22 touchdowns and/or more than eight interceptions. His ability to take care of the football is among the best in the NCAA and without question will have scouts excited about his pro potential.”"

He may be viewed as insurance, but the chances are that Reggie McKenzie could view Cook as a future trade chip.  Few things can net quality future draft picks than young quarterbacks who have had time to learn on a sideline.  No doubt they can do that if he embraces the work.
