With the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft the Rams select Jared Goff.
After trading two second round picks, two third round picks as well as this year’s and next year’s first round picks, the Los Angels Rams moved up from the 15th pick to the number one overall pick in the draft. However, it will all be worth it if they finally get heir franchise quarterback. They’re hoping that Goff is the man for the job.
Goff was the top overall quarterback on my board. He has good NFL messurables at 6’4, 215 lbs. He is fairly mobile, enough so to pick up a first down when he has open field in front of him. In terms of his passing ability, Goff has a good arm and god mechanics. He’s shown the ability to put the ball in the perfect spot where only his man can make a play on it.
Goff needs to be more consistent with his accuracy and his touch, but that’s something a good QB coach should be able to polish up. What he really needs to prove is if he can operate an NFL offense to a high level. He ran an air raid type system in college, which actually did have some traditional traits to it that make me believe he will pick things up quickly. However, in a perfect situation he won’t be rushed along and will be able to sit behind a veteran until he proves that he’s ready to lead.
This is the kind of talent the Rams were looking for to lead their passing attack. This offense ranked dead last in the NFL in both pas offense and total offense last year. Even with their dreadful offense, the Rams still finished the year with a 9-7 record. Adding Goff to a rising star at running back in last seasons offensive rookie of the year Todd Gurley, L.A. has the core to build around on offense.
