2nd Round (via BUF)

Illinois. Jihad Ward . 49. player. 57. The defensive line depth of this draft class is bordering on ridiculous. That is the only way to explain how Jihad Ward is rated as a 4th round pick on many boards. In normal years he’d be flirting with the 1st. He’s a big man with the size, frame, power and quickness coaches look for in a 3-4 defensive end. He gives consistent effort, can play multiple positions and best of all has room to improve.

Akiem Hicks was a solid addition to the Bears front but they still have a lingering hole at the other end spot next to Eddie Goldman. At present it looks like a competition between former draft picks Will Sutton and Ego Ferguson. Neither has proven they can hold down the job to the level of expectations this team has. Ward seems like a natural fit. Fangio has done more with a lot less in his long career as a defensive coordinator. No doubt given time he can make something of this kid.
.
