Rumor: Run on Wide Receivers Begins with Texans

Like many others, Mike Mayock has a run of wide receivers from picks 22-24 in his one and only mock draft. Unlike many others, Mayock also has Josh Doctson going 15th overall to the Baltimore Ravens in a projected trade with the Tennessee Titans.

While I agree that the first wide receiver will be selected earlier than 22nd, Laquon Treadwell is the most likely candidate. Too much has been made about his forty time as Treadwell isn’t someone who wins with speed. Instead of speed, it’s his physical style of play and route-running skills that help him create separation. The same can be said for numerous receivers who have had success in the NFL.

While Treadwell could go as early as number eight to Cleveland, the run may actually start with the New York Jets at number 20. New York has been a popular destination in mock drafts for Paxton Lynch, but according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets may go in another direction.

The bottom line is once one team selects a wide receiver in the early 20’s, there will be a run. Whether it starts with the Jets, Texans, or another team, Treadwell, Doctson, Will Fuller and Corey Coleman are all in great position to be drafted in round one.
