Southern Miss CB Kalan Reed is a playmaker, consistently getting to the ball and being a decisive, physical tackler.
He had an impressive college career, compiling 152 total tackles, eight interceptions, and 30 passes defended over four seasons.
During his senior year, Reed returned two of his four interceptions for touchdowns, showcasing his exceptional quickness. Reed also ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the NFL combine.
School: Southern Mississippi
Position: CB
Height: 5’11
Weight: 199lbs
Strengths:
Reed has excellent ball awareness, consistently breaking up and intercepting passes. In his senior season, he had 17 passes defended. Reed is physically a good match for the NFL at 5’11 and 199lbs. He has the size to create an advantage over receivers.
Kalan Reed has shown himself to be a competitive playmaker and excellent tackler. His coverage is exceptional and he routinely gets to the football, making plays that get past his teammates.
With few injuries, Reed also appears to be a durable and reliable addition to any defense.
Weaknesses:
Kalan Reed occasionally allows himself to get beat or for big plays to escape him. The cornerback occasionally reads a route incorrectly.
Reed is a largely raw, and will need the chance to develop to succeed at the next round, but he is physically impressive and will likely make a team in the later rounds very happy as a potential future playmaker.
Projection:
Kalan Reed’s skill set and physical talent may outweigh his rawness and developmental status for the right team. His speed, awareness, and tackling abilities are impressive.
The cornerback has the means to develop into a legitimate threat in the league. With his immense upside potential, an NFL team will likely take the chance on Reed in the mid to late rounds of the draft on Thursday.
