Aziz Shittu, DE, Stanford: 2016 NFL Scouting Report
By Ross Woomer
Aziz Shittu’s success at Stanford didn’t come until the tail-end of his stay. He played in only five games as a junior before suffering a season-ending ACL injury.
Returning for his senior season, he contributed 58 tackles, 14.5 for loss, en route to Stanford’s Rose Bowl run in the 2015 season, ending in a rout over Iowa.
Shittu recorded a season-high 10 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and 1.5 sacks in that victory.
Measurables
Height: 6′ 3″
Weight 279 lbs
40-yard dash: 5.4 seconds
Short shuttle: 4.52 seconds
3-cone: 7.52 seconds
Strengths
Shittu is strong, he put up 31 reps (225 pounds) at Stanford’s pro day. He flies off the line when the ball is snapped.
Shittu is confident in his versatility and ability to play any position up front. He lined up both inside and outside while at Stanford.
He possesses good footwork and drives blockers back by leading with his hands.
Shittu excels off the field as he made All-Academic Pac-12 first team in 2015.
Weaknesses
Shittu isn’t fast. He’s constantly in the backfield but his lack-of quickness and agility impede his progress at reaching ball carriers.
Shittu started only one season (2015) so although his momentum is heading in the right direction, he currently doesn’t have as much experience as Scout’s would prefer.
Potential Fits
Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Washington Redskins
Final Thoughts
Along with being a student, Shittu is also a teacher of the game as you can find him on YouTube discussing defensive line techniques. He has a superstar trait in that he steps-up his game in big moments. Shittu had seven tackles in the Pac-12 Championship game and 10 in the Rose Bowl.
If drafted, don’t be surprised to see teams move Shittu around to see where he best fits.
