Tra Carson, RB, Texas A&M: 2016 NFL Scouting Report
By Ross Woomer
Tra Carson transferred to Texas A&M after spending his true freshman season at Oregon. After sitting out the entire 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Carson produced at back when he eventually saw the field for the Aggies.
He played in 12 games, running for 329 yards as a sophomore and earned Offensive MVP honors as a junior in the 2014 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
During his senior season he became the first Texas A&M running back to run for over 1,000 yards in a single season.

Strengths
Carson isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder into defenders. He tries to run through would-be tacklers. Carson is a good blocker and a solid check-down back. He has soft feet and is able to tip-toe along the sidelines. He shows bursts of acceleration when hitting gaps and doesn’t go down without a fight. Carson is a big, physical back who’s a strong downfield runner.
Carson shows he can reverse field and make highlight reels.
Weaknesses
Carson could be more patient in waiting for holes to develop but at the same time he could become less hesitant when picking direction. He’s more of a short-yardage, third down power back than he is a slippery, big-yardage back.
Potential Fits
Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins
Final Thoughts
Although Tra Carson struggled against his biggest competition in Alabama (46 rushing yards) this past season, he did put up six 100-yard rushing games, including four straight. He’s a strong back who has experience playing a blocking role on special teams.
Carson’s senior season was his best by far so he’s on the rise with momentum on his side. Look for Tra Carson to be used on special teams or in short-yardage situations (fullback maybe) in the NFL.
