29. Arizona Cardinals

CB. Clemson. Mackensie Alexander . 29. player. 32. The meltdown in the NFC championship had a lot of areas to blame for the Arizona Cardinals but their pass defense was at the heart of it. Both the pass rush and secondary failed to show up. Too long the team has survived with Patrick Peterson and a bunch of overachievers at cornerback. The time has come for them to get somebody who can cover man-to-man.

Experts are quick to jump on Mackensie Alexander for two reasons. He’s only 5’10”, which is borderline dangerous for teams who demand tight press coverage. Also, he went through his entire college career without an interception. That draws a red flag about his ball skills. Yet one can’t deny the tape shows an athlete with good speed that looks comfortable in space and can remain sticky on receivers wherever they go. Based on his confidence alone, he has the look of a perfect #2 opposite Peterson.
