Philadelphia Eagles Acquire 2nd Overall Pick
After moving up the the eighth overall pick at the start of the new league year, the Philadelphia Eagles were long rumored to be on the hunt for another trade opportunity. With the two quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Jared Goff expected to go high, many expected the Eagles to dip their toes into the trade market.
According to the Philadelphia Eagles official Twitter account, the team has acquired the second overall pick from the Cleveland. They will send two first round picks, a future second, a third this year, and a future fourth. They will receive a fourth round pick next year from Cleveland.
This is the first time in NFL Draft history that both the first and second overall pick have been traded.
Despite missing out on acquiring the first overall pick (which was done so by the Los Angeles Rams) the Eagles quickly became favorites to work a deal with the Cleveland Browns.
The Cleveland Browns have been stuck in mediocrity, so acquiring as many draft picks as they are will certainly help them rebuild a team that has been one of the worst in the league.
The Eagles recently signed Sam Bradford to a two year contract and Chase Daniels to one of the biggest deals for a back up quarterback.
The Eagles could also be looking at drafting a running back, a defensive back, and an offensive lineman. This trade certainly hurts their chance to get all of those picks, but perhaps the Eagles could ship Bradford to a team such as Denver or New York.
This is the first year of the Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman era for the Philadelphia Eagles. They certainly made it a splash, signing free agents such as Brandon Brooks, Rodney McLeod, and Rueben Randle.
