The debate continues on what the Cleveland Browns have planned for the 2016 NFL draft. Few know what they will do, but what should they do?
Everybody with a lick of sense knows what is going to happen at #1 when the draft begins. The Los Angeles Rams made that clear when they gave away a boat load of draft picks to get it from the Tennessee Titans. All signs point to a quarterback. Now the interesting scenario centers on the Browns with the 2nd pick. Reports have come out over the past few weeks with a number of different possibilities.
IF @Eagles & @Browns make deal for No. 2 overall pick, I'm told compensation includes 1st- & 3rd-rnd picks in 2016/17 @SiriusXMNFL @NFLonFOX

Browns will be happy because their guy has been Goff. Rams are very high on Wentz

The only thing people can say for sure is what the Browns ends up doing with the #2 pick will dictate how the rest of the top 10 unfolds, whether it’s staying put or moving down. Asking what they will do is pointless now because nobody knows for sure. Maybe not even them. So one must shift the question to what should they do? In order to help with that, we polled the rest of the NFL Mocks crew in order to see where they stand on the subject.
Eric Robinson:
"“I see them trading back and acquiring more picks which isn’t a bad idea at all. Especially for a team in serious need of several positions. Also, taking an elite free safety such as Mr. Ramsey at 2nd overall would be beneficial as well.”"
Brady Lunt:
"“I think a QB will be the pick, but not by the Browns. With the analytical management team in place for Cleveland, trading back and acquiring more picks is the goal. I think a team will entice them enough to move up and take the “other” quarterback not taken by the Rams.”"
David Holmes:
"“Many believe the Cleveland Browns will select either Goff or Wentz depending on whose available. However, I believe Hue Jackson wants to see what he can do with RG3 this season, and wait to select his QB next year if Griffin doesn’t work out. This will lead them to select the BPA and in this case would be Jalen Ramsey. In Ramsey the Browns would be getting arguably the best safety the NFL has seen since Earl Thomas.”"
The Cleveland Browns have come face to face with reality over the past few months. Many of their prominent players have grown fed up with the losing and constant turnover and chosen to jump ship. This is a team in full-blown rebuild mode. One could argue it’s not the best situation for a rookie quarterback to come into. No weapons. Little protection beyond an aging star left tackle.
This team doesn’t need just a quarterback. It needs almost everything. Bringing in any young passer is almost guaranteed to result in failure. At least with Robert Griffin III they have a player who is still young, mobile and experienced. They can attempt to build around him, and see what happens from there. It’s not about quarterbacks for them right now.
It’s about talent.
