After paying Brock Osweiler $72 million, it was clear to Brian Hoyer his future on the Houston Texans was murky at best. The career-journey man is once again on the free agent market after the Texans failed to find a trade partner for him.
The #Texans have released QB Brian Hoyer, source said. He's a free agent

While Hoyer had an atrocious playoff game against the Chiefs and failed to get Houston on the board, he’s had his moments in the NFL and could be an interesting commodity for a team still looking for either a back-up or veteran placeholder.
Irony would allude to Hoyer being an option for the Denver Broncos, whose loss of Osweiler put the 30-year old Hoyer out of the job. With Mark Sanchez being the only viable starting option for the Super Bowl champions, could John Elway take a low-risk, mediocre-reward move and give Brian Hoyer a one year contract?
Since the Colin Kaepernick situation is fluid, going to Denver may not be the perfect landing spot for Hoyer.
What may be is with the New York Jets. Ryan Fitzpatrick is refusing to budge off of his outrageous contractual demands, leaving Geno Smith and Bryce Petty as Todd Bowles’ only options.
While the Jets could very easily draft a quarterback next week (!!!) the lack of a veteran voice is missing. Between Geno Smith, sophomore Bryce Petty, and a potential rookie, there is minimal NFL experience in the quarterback room. If Hoyer is in fact brought in and the Jets make a move on draft day, it wouldn’t shock me either if Geno Smith is sent packing. The former West Virginia quarterback has proven to be a bust ever since the Jets took him in the second round just a couple of years ago.
While Brian Hoyer certainly isn’t the flashiest name, his leadership and experience could help an NFL team immediately.
