The Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans have produced the biggest trade by far of the 2016 NFL draft period. Could any others be on the way?
It’s a fair question. This draft is shaping up to be different from others. Given the nature of the class, particularly its lack of legitimate star power, the cost of moving up is down and the desire to move down is up. Those are the ideal conditions that should spark an outbreak of trading early and often in the 1st round. It’s a question of which teams will take that leap and who they might have targeted. The NFL Mocks crew was posed this scenario and asked to present their opinions.
Eric Robinson
"“Not sure of the trade partner but I get the feeling the Tennessee Titans are not done as far as the 1st round goes. With three 2nd round picks, they can maneuver back into the 1st and walk away with two top 32 talents.”"
Jeff Olsen
"“I could see the Lions moving up into the top 10 for Ronnie Stanley. They have 10 picks in this draft, so they have some flexibility. I could see a nice swap with the Bucs, who just drafted their left tackle last year, making it a win-win deal.”"
Brady Lunt
"“I think the Jets will be watching Paxton Lynch closely. They need a quarterback and Lynch has the potential to slide, but possibly not all the way to 20. If New York starts getting that same vibe, I wouldn’t be surprised if they start making calls to move up.”"
Another team to watch in all this? The San Francisco 49ers. They are in the midst of a quarterback quandary with Colin Kaepernick not wishing to stay in town and demanding a trade. GM Trent Baalke might be pressed to go after a quarterback and would have to move from #7 overall to be given the best chances. Throw in the fact that the 49ers have the most picks of any team in the draft with 12, and it’s a situation that certainly seems ripe for deal.
