2016 NFL Draft: Cincinnati Bearcats WR Johnny Holton is a quick receiver and a legitimate deep threat. We take a look at his prospects moving on to the NFL…

After two years at College of DuPage, Holton transferred to Cincinnati.  In two seasons with the Bearcats, he compiled 46 receptions for 892 yards and 10 touchdowns.  Holton was also a special teams contributor.

Position: WR

School: Cincinnati

Height: 6’2

Weight: 191 lbs

2015 Stats: 17 receptions, 461 yards, 5 touchdowns

Strengths:

Holton is a reliable deep threat, with an average 27.1 yards per reception in 2015.  He has shown the ability to create significant separation from defenders, and uses his impressive speed to pile on additional yardage.  Holton has big-play potential.

His contributions to special teams include 45 kick returns for 942 yards in his two  seasons at Cincinnati.  He was also a major kick return playmaker at College of DuPage.

Weaknesses:

Holton needs improvement as a route-runner to become a more versatile player.

He is a one-dimensional receiving threat and doesn’t have the strongest hands.  His build leaves something to be desired for his skill set.

Projection:

With a fair amount of raw, physical talent, Holton could peak the interest of an NFL team.  His speed is impressive, particularly in stop-and-go situations.

Holton has the potential to contribute to both an offense and special teams, but would be a project receiver in need of serious development.
