Eric Mac Lain was originally recruited by Clemson to play tight end. He started in only one game before 2015, after switching to offensive guard Mac Lain started in all 14 games for Clemson this past season.

Measurables

Height: 6′ 5″

Weight: 312 lbs

Strengths

Mac Lain does well at consistently staying with blockers and even showed he’s able to get low and downfield when needed to. He’s accountable in maintain his role when protecting the pocket. He’s versatile throughout the offensive line and has experience playing punt coverage. Mac Lain is a locker room leader, plays a big-brother role with younger teammates and is an advocate for off-field community service.

Mac Lain stepped-up against Alabama, as he was part of an offensive line that blocked for Clemson’s 500 yard performance in the 2016 National Championship Game. He spoke afterwards and appeared confident and humbled from the loss, taking positives from a negative situation.

Mac Lain displays play awareness and positions himself to block downfield, allowing for big pick-ups.

Weaknesses

He has only one year of experience playing offensive guard. His lack of repetitions may shy some scouts away as he’s still learning how to play the position. He sometimes attacks too high into defender’s shoulder pads and other times looks lost on the field.

Final Thoughts

Eric Mac Lain already possesses the leadership preferred and along with his mind being in the right place, so is his body. Mac Lain was able to put on nearly 70 pounds since coming out of high school. Mac Lain seems to be a solid candidate for NFL teams after he receives additional positional coaching. Look for Mac Lain to be a mid to late second-day selection.
