If there was one thing that Chip Kelly would say doomed his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, aside from the constant meddling with a good roster, it was the inability to find a legitimate quarterback. That was a primary reason as to why he made the aggressive trade for Sam Bradford last year.

That didn’t work out. Now with his new team, the San Francisco 49ers, there is a feeling that this time he’s going to make sure he has that position settled before anything else. Perhaps that will be Colin Kaepernick, but sources persist that he wants out and a trade with the Denver Broncos continues to push forward, if slowly.

At the same time word has leaked that the 49ers may be eyeing another move, this one to fill the void Kaepernick could leave if and when he does go.

It’s important to note that the Tennessee Titans have made it clear from the start that they’re interested in moving down from #1. The price is not likely to be as expensive as it would be in other years due to the general lack of star power at the top. Still, if the 49ers are keen to get a quarterback and have a particular one in mind, then they must get ahead of the Cleveland Browns who sit at #2.

What makes San Francisco so open to the idea is the fact they have the picks to spare. No team has more selections in the 2016 NFL draft than the 49ers with 12. So they can afford to part with a few in order to pull off this deal. It comes down to how high the demand is from Tennessee and how committed Kelly is to getting the quarterback he wants rather than risk staying put at #7.

Were it to happen, it would mark the first time since 2001 that the first pick in the draft was exchanged between two teams.
