#15:  Shane Lechler (142nd overall, 2000)

One area that the Raiders have cornered the market in their history is punters.  They’ve had two of the absolute best in NFL history, and Shane Lechler is the most recent success story.  Coming in the 5th round out of Texas A&M, Lechler caught the eye of fans right away since specialists generally don’t go that high unless they have talent.  Indeed he backed that up by becoming an All-Pro his very first season kicked for them.

Over the next 13 years he became the best in football, averaging a healthy 47.5 yards per punt for his time in Oakland and having just four blocked over that span.  The seven Pro Bowls are proof enough he’s one of the best the team has ever produced, never mind the fact he stayed so consistent and good until he departed at age 36.  Still going strong now in Houston, Lechler may be wearing a Texans uniform but his glory days will forever remain emblazoned in black.
