The 2016 NFL draft rumor mill is chugging at full capacity, with all sorts of “anonymous” quotes by scouts and executives being thrown into the media net, setting off firestorms of speculation about what could happen to the stocks of some of the top prospects. It’s important to take all of this with a grain of salt, as any experienced draft enthusiast knows. However, it’s also important to keep in mind that not every rumor is false.
There are some out there that have truth behind them. It’s a matter of figuring out which ones and why they’re okay to believe while others aren’t. Here are five examples that football fans should be taking seriously.
Josh Doctson will be first receiver taken
If there is one buzz words that NFL teams hate to hear and have one of the greatest impacts on their decision to sign or draft a wide receiver, it’s “drop.” They do not like receivers who put the ball on the ground. That is why names like Laquon Treadwell, Corey Coleman and Will Fuller continue to see their stocks sag. All had this problem during their time at school.
Meanwhile TCU star Josh Doctson has steadily climbed boards. Aside from having good size, decent speed and outstand production he also showed an excellent pair of hands that rarely let the ball slip out (4 drops). Based on that information and the direction his biggest competition is going, there is a legitimate possibility that he will be the first receiver off the board.
