3rd Round

The loss of Charles Woodson has left the safety position mired in uncertainty for the Raiders. In fact their entire secondary needed attention at the start of the season, but none more so than the back end. What they’ll be looking for is one with experience who can play like Woodson did, with an affinity for pass coverage who can make quarterbacks pay for trying to go deep.

A rising star on draft boards of late has been Boston College standout Justin Simmons. A rangy 6’2″ in height, he proved to be quite effective as a free safety, showing a knack for reading the quarterback and knowing where the football was going. He has a cornerback history and enough speed and size to handle coverage responsibilities against opposing tight ends. Best of all, he saves some of his biggest plays for the biggest games.
.
