The quarterback carousel in Cleveland continues with another name jumping on for the ride. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former second overall pick Robert Griffin III will be signing today with the Cleveland Browns.

Schefter reports that it will be a two year contract, but the financial details of this contract have not yet been released.

Robert Griffin III was the Washington Redskins first round pick out of Baylor in 2012. After a long debate of whether Griffin or Andrew Luck should go number one to the Indianapolis Colts and who would have a better career, it’s now evident Indianapolis made the right decision.

To make matters worse, the Redskins had to trade up with the St. Louis Rams to acquire the pick. They sent a first-round selections in 2012 (6th), 2013 (22nd), and 2014 (2nd), and a 2012 second-round selection to St. Louis for a quarterback who is no longer on the roster.

In his rookie year, Griffin exploded onto the scene in Washington D.C., taking the Washington Redskins to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. He would also win the Rookie of the Year award after throwing for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just five interceptions.

Everything would go down hill for Robert Griffin III, as he suffered a brutal knee injury during that playoff loss.

With Cleveland now signing Robert Griffin III, the question remains whether they select a quarterback with the second overall pick. Schefter said on SportsCenter he believes they will develop either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz behind Griffin.

It also closes the window for the San Francisco 49ers to trade Colin Kaepernick. The Browns were reportedly interested, but this move leaves the Jets and Broncos as the only realistic option for Kaepernick to be traded to.

If the Browns decide to pass on a first round quarterback, they would most likely focus on a defensive stud. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey or pass rushers Joey Bosa and DeForest Buckner are all viable options for Cleveland.

The Browns could even entertain an option of trading down and gathering future draft picks to build around.
