5th Round

Maryland. Yannick Ngakoue . 150. player. 57. Taking two players from the same school in back-to-back picks is rare enough. Taking them both from a school like Maryland? That’s practically unheard of in the modern draft landscape. Still, that’s how it goes. Outside linebacker has need of a youth injection to help supplement their edge rush behind Pernell McPhee, Lamarr Houston and Willie Young.

In terms of production, it was hard to find somebody better this past season than Yannick Ngakoue. He posted 13 sacks and a whopping 45 quarterback pressures. So it’s clear the young man knows how to create pressure. He’s a good athlete with flexibility while showing some explosion and strength at the scouting combine. What drops him to the 5th round is a lack of length. He’s 6’2″ with 32-inch arms. That isn’t ideal for pro pass rushers. Ngakoue has the talent to get around that problem, but history shows not all of them can.
.
