Jeff Driskel, QB, LA Tech: 2016 NFL Draft Scouting Report
In every NFL Draft there are late round quarterbacks that somehow slip through the cracks and break out in the NFL. This year is filled with those types of quarterbacks, including Louisiana Tech quarterback Jeff Driskel.
Once a starter at Florida, Driskel led the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a blowout win in the New Orleans Bowl.
He received invites to the Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine and opened some eyes in the process.

Strengths
Jeff Driskel has an extremely strong arm, consistently firing 50 yard passes down the field. His accuracy is also fairly solid. He consistently showed he can place the ball where only the receiver can catch it.
Watch him do just that against Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl last season.
Mobility is also a plus for Jeff Driskel. He was recruited to replace Tim Tebow, but injuries left him off the field.
Finally, Driskel is a smart quarterback when it comes to managing the game and protecting him self. He knows when a play is dead and to throw the ball out of bounds and also when/how to properly slide. Often you see him directing his receivers mid-play and can manipulate defenders easily. His leadership has also been praised.
Weaknesses
While he can be considered a mobile quarterback, Driskel doesn’t have the electric escapability you see with a Russell Wilson or at one point Michael Vick. He can run the read option, but don’t expect him to extend plays with his legs.
He also needs to better protect the ball as a runner.
He also has a long, drawn-out windup, almost like a pitcher in baseball. He also doesn’t have a lot of velocity behind his short throws, something that will lead to NFL defensive backs jumping the route and taking it to the house.
Durability is also something to note. Driskel suffered a broken leg and missed most of the 2013 season.
Final Verdict
Jeff Driskel is a project quarterback, but with the right coaching he could turn into a quality NFL player. He will either be drafted in the seventh round or become a priority undrafted free agent.
I think San Francisco is a place he could end up depending on what happens leading up to the draft with Colin Kaepernick and who gets picked in the earlier rounds.
