Right behind inside linebacker for concerning spots on defense is outside linebacker.  In fact that position hasn’t done them many favors even dating back to the Rex Ryan era.  Calvin Pace and Quinton Coples were hardly the traditional pass rushers a 3-4 requires at that spot and thus far Lorenzo Mauldin hasn’t shown much.  Adding more depth and upside talent is something they must consider. <p>De’Vondre Campbell turned a lot of heads at the scouting combine.  While his instincts are raw and production is lacking, the basic skill set a 3-4 outside linebacker needs are all in place.  He’s big, long and a good athlete with explosive burst to come of the edge.  He’s also an accomplished academic at Minnesota, meaning he’s quite intelligent.  Smart guys take to coaching far better than other players, and it’s coaching that Campbell needs to unlock his potential.</p>.
