ILB. Florida. Antonio Morrison . 118. player. 30. The age of David Harris (32) and the departure of Demario Davis has magnified a growing situation for the Jets defense at inside linebacker. Behind nose tackle Damon Harrison, who is also now gone, they were integral to the success of that defense against the run. Do they have somebody ready to step up? Current projections don’t paint a pretty picture.
That’s why they go after Florida standout Antonio Morrison. Concerns of lacking function in coverage, along with an injury history are what drop him but there his no doubting he’s got the skill set and mental fortitude of a 3-4 inside linebacker. He’s gritty, tough and aggressive, playing a downhill style that allows him to make plays against the run and also be an effective blitzer. His leadership qualities will also be a welcome addition as he fires up teammates and can get them lined up before the snap.
