31. The defensive line has been the problem for the Giants dating back five years. Both their Super Bowl championships were won because they could put heat on the quarterback. That hasn’t been the case in recent years. The re-signing of Jason Pierre-Paul and arrival of Olivier Vernon were a step in the right direction, but there is still something missing.
That something is an interior rush presence. A defensive tackle who can push the pocket up the middle, teaming with a premium run stopper like Damon Harrison. Jonathan Bullard of Florida is the man for the job. While not overly tall, he’s a quick, explosive rusher who can split gaps to get into the backfield before offensive linemen can often get their hands on him. If he can add more strength and learn to finish better, that Giants defensive front will be taken seriously for the first time in years.
.
