Jared Goff and Carson Wentz: Pro-Ready Vs. Upside
By Erik Lambert
Reality
So what does history teach about this argument? That it’s an inexact science like the rest of the NFL draft. There have been cases where the pro-ready prospect far outshined the upside, cases where the higher potential laughed at the idea of more polished and then even cases where both went on to have productive careers.
The narrative on Jared Goff and Carson Wentz will continue all the way up until the third season of their professional careers. Only by then should experts be able to get a solid grasp on which team they ended up with made the better selection. Until such time, what matters is what’s between the ears. Which quarterback seems to have the mental toughness and acuity to succeed at the highest level?
If a team decides to focus on that part of the equation, their chances should be favorable. Then again, nothing is ever certain.
