Matt Ryan vs. Joe Flacco

In 2008 most felt that Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, a smart and efficient quarterback well-versed in running a pro offense, was destined to go first.  However, an unlikely challenger named Joe Flacco came out of left field boasting a big 6’6″ frame and a powerful right arm that could get the ball anywhere on the field.  Ryan ended up going #3 to the Atlanta Falcons.  Flacco fell to the Baltimore Ravens at #18.

The Result:

In terms of personal success, Ryan has the edge.  He’s a three-time Pro Bowler who has thrown for at least 4,100 yards in each of his five most recent seasons.  Flacco has never eclipsed 4,000 once nor topped 27 touchdown passes.  On top of that he has no Pro Bowls.  However, he did throw 17 TDs (and no interceptions) in the 2012 playoffs en route to a Lombardi trophy and a Super Bowl MVP honor.  Thus one has the stats and the other has the ring.
