The center position is one of the most important on the field. They need to be quick, able to get into a stance, and call out blitzes. No one in this year’s draft class has more experience doing that than Evan Boehm.

He has a Missouri-record 52 starts under his belt, including starting as a freshman.

Coming from a program that has produced 11 NFL offensive lineman in the past seven years, Boehm has the potential to do big things at the next level.

Measurables

Height: 6’2

Weight: 302 lbs.

20 Yard Shuttle: 3.12

Strengths

Anyone that was a four-year started in the SEC has a lot of talent. To do that as a lineman is even more difficult. Boehm has great size and will develop even more lower-body strength at the next level, which will help his game.

He moves well side-to-side, allowing him to protect the quarterback and pick up multiple blocking assignments. A former wrestler, Boehm has strong hands, which allows him to latch on to defenders and clear paths.

Skip to 0:11 to see Boehm move laterally and block at the second level. Throughout the video, it is clear that he is an elite blocker even as a sophomore at the time.

Perhaps his greatest strength is his experience. He has blocked for multiple quarterbacks and running backs over his college career and has shown that he can dominate opponents. Boehm was also a captain in 2015, illustrating his leadership skills.

Weaknesses

After playing in a spread offense which utilized the shotgun set almost exclusively, Boehm will have to adjust to snapping when the quarterback is under center. This should not be a major hindrance, but it will be something for scouts to look out for.

Boehm is not the most athletic lineman, which could affect his performance against faster lineman and linebackers. However, a good offensive line coach will most likely alter his stance to allow for a quicker release after the snap.

Outlook

Evan Boehm is the complete package. He possesses the qualifications, both tangible and intangible, to be an elite center in the NFL.

Since he plays such a specialized position, he probably will not get drafted as high as he deserves to get picked. Expect Boehm to be selected in the fourth round and have a quality career at the next level.
