Understanding the market

People don’t understand how brilliant Pace might be if he pulls off a feat that could be imminent.  One of the things that has become prevalent about the 2016 crop of veteran and rookie talent is this:  a rather weak class of tight ends.  When names like Coby Fleener and Ladarius Green are considered the best available, it’s weak.

So why is Pace a master craftsman?  Word is the Bears have had veteran Jermaine Gresham in for a visit.  Belief is they have a strong chance of signing him.  Also, Zach Miller, their surprise comeback story from 2015 is reported likely to re-sign.  That takes two more key pieces off the table, but more importantly gives Chicago a tremendous amount of leverage regarding Martellus Bennett.

The 28-year old former Pro Bowler appears on his way out.  Initially most thought the Bears wouldn’t be able to trade him because they thought they’d just cut him.  However, if they can thin the market even further at tight end by signing Miller and Gresham, they’ve instantly increased Bennett’s value.  Add in predictions of a limited draft class as well, and Pace has artificially created trade leverage where there was none before.
