Tashaun Gipson to Sign with Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been extremely busy in free agency thus far and have made another move to bolster their defense.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars will be signing safety Tashaun Gipson. Multiple reports are that he will sign a five year deal worth $35.5M.
Here’s what NFL Mocks writer Ross Woomer had to say about Tashaun Gipson heading into free agency this week.
"The young free safety will leave Cleveland after being drafted by them in 2012. Gipson has 14 interceptions in his career and isn’t a slouch when he picks off quarterbacks. He has the speed defensive backs need. Gipson averages just under 26 return yards per interception and has two touchdown returns in his career. With youth on his side (age 25), Gipson will fit well into secondaries searching for young and teachable talent. Gipson is exiting Cleveland and will look to contribute on winning team. Playing for more wins may excel his game to the next level."
As mentioned by Ross, Gipson will be leaving the Cleveland Browns after being undrafted and signing in 2012. He was an interception machine for them and will be severely missed.
The Browns lost big in retaining their own free agents today, as highlighted by Adam Schefter.
The Jaguars on the other hand dished out a lot of money today. They signed Malik Jackson, Chris Ivory, Marcedes Lewis and Brad Nortman and will probably have much money to spare after that.
With the fifth overall pick in this years draft, look for the Jaguars to address the safety position. Someone like Myles Jack could be an interesting addition if still left on the board.
