Despite resigning quarterback Sam Bradford to a two year contract last week, the expectations that the Eagles would not be done signing quarterbacks did not dwindle.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles will sign quarterback Chase Daniel to a three year deal. This will reunite Daniel with his former offensive coordinator from Kansas City, Doug Pederson.
Chase Daniel was a favorite to win the Eagles starting quarterback job even before he officially became a free agent. With Sam Bradford not yet signed until last week, many assumed Daniel would come in and be a fill-in quarterback until the Eagles could draft someone in the future.
Chase Daniel on the other hand has only started two games since his rookie year. He was originally a member of the New Orleans Saints where he played sparingly. While he won’t be starting in Philadelphia on a regular basis, he is a favorite of Pederson and can help Sam Bradford learn the new west-coast system.
Daniel has one career passing touchdown and has only thrown for 464 yards in his six year NFL career.
With Daniel now in the fold, the future for quarterback Mark Sanchez is very murky. Sanchez carries a $5.5 million cap hit in 2016 and can easily be cut by the Eagles. They can save $3.5 million if they do decide to move on from him.
Sanchez played in 13 games for the Eagles since being signed by Chip Kelly in 2014. He did start 10 of those games, but ultimately fell through several times in high pressure situations.
The Eagles did complete their trade with the Miami Dolphins in which they send Byron Maxwell, Kiko Alonso and their 13th overall pick for the 8th overall pick.
