Janoris Jenkins didn’t seem to have a preference for staying in L.A. with the Rams.  Instead the top corner in NFL free agency decided to take his talents east to join the New York Giants.  It could end up being a huge get for the G-men.

Here is the guy the Giants will be getting both in terms of the person and the player.

"“Don’t be fooled by the 5’10” frame.  Janoris Jenkins is one of the top legitimate corners in football.  Not only does the man himself believe it, but the production and reliability the Los Angeles Rams have gotten out of him since he was drafted speaks for itself.  He has five career interception returns for touchdowns, meaning he’s a threat to score every time he gets his hands on the football.  Best of all he brings an edge and certain degree of expectation with him to the secondary.  At age 27 he is in his prime with what should be a long window left of good football ahead of him.  He may be better suited to a 4-3 team given his size, but he’d be the first to insist the scheme doesn’t matter.  He can and will cover anybody.”"

This is a tremendous get for New York.  Steve Spagnuolo runs an aggressive 4-3 system that requires dependable corners who can play both man and zone.  That is exactly what Jenkins did for Jeff Fisher and the Rams in St. Louis.  He will pair with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to give the Giants one of their best corner tandems in recent memory.

GRADE:  A+

Given the amount of cap space the New York Giants have, the contract Jenkins will get should be extensive but it doesn’t matter.  They needed to make a splash of this type on defense.  With Jason Pierre-Paul back and now a rock solid corner, things are looking far rosier for new head coach Ben McAdoo.
