Kelechi Osemele To Sign With The Oakland Raiders

The most coveted offensive lineman on the free agent market, Kelechi Osemele, has found his new home.  The Oakland Raiders are reported to have an agreement in principle with the massive offensive lineman from Baltimore per Rand Getlin.

Here is what the Silver and Black will be getting.

"“The former Iowa State product is undoubtedly the best offensive lineman available this offseason, possibly the best free agent available overall. Kelechi Osemele is a rare player that has excelled in the NFL and college at both guard and tackle, and teams who need a perennial Pro Bowler up front will hand this guy a ton of cash to either protect their quarterback’s blind side or be one of the most athletic guards in the league. Osemele will be just 27 at the start of next season, so the upside here is enormous. He deserves to be one of the highest paid linemen in the league, as his versatility is second to none. At 6-5, 333 pounds, he’s a mammoth who is light on his feet, but his greatest gift is his ability to knock defenders off of theirs.”"

Having so much money to spend, it was obvious the Raiders would be able to lure top free agents and they got a big one, literally and figuratively.  Osemele should be able to fit in anywhere on that offensive line.  He could fill in the vacant right guard spot or replace fellow free agent Donald Penn at left tackle.  That sort of versatility is hard to come by.

Grade:  A+

No matter what the money turns out to be, this is a huge move for Oakland.  It gets them a top offensive lineman who will instantly improve their ground attack and ensure the well-being of their prized possession in quarterback Derek Carr.  That offense should be something to watch in 2016.
