NFL Draft: Three Draft Needs For Each NFC East Team
Washington Redskins
1 Defensive Tackle – Washington’s defensive line wasn’t that bad in 2015, but the circumstances that are presented (Hatcher’s age, UFA in Knighton) could truly have the team looking for a more younger, elite option in the first round. At 21st overall, Washington has an opportunity to grab a stout defensive lineman at point in the draft. Who? They may have a menu of five, six, or seven options in Jarran Reed, A’Shawn Robinson, Andrew Billings, Vernon Butler, and Kenny Clark. All can provide a true upgrade at the DL spot.
2. Center – The center position may get a legit look in the draft with minimal options in free agency. Current starter Kory Lichtensteiger injured his neck during the season and the position as a whole was a headache all season. In Alabama’s Ryan Kelly, the center is arguably the best in the draft and gives the team a needed infusion of talent as they turn the offensive reigns over to Kirk Cousins. Nick Martin from Notre Dame and Max Tuerk from USC could be on the radar for Washington as well.
3. Cornerback – The position could be in good hands if 2015 free agent Chris Culliver can come back 100% from a season-ending ACL injury. Fellow starter Breshaud Breeland stepped his game up this past season and is a clear asset. The issue with Washington is the depth of the cornerback position as the team looked to sign Cary Williams which in all likelihood is a Band-Aid on the situation. CB Harlan Miller out of Southeastern Louisiana, Maurice Canady of Virginia, and Taveze Calhoun of Mississippi State are just a few names that Washington can look to add depth to an improving unit.
