NFL Draft: Three Draft Needs For Each NFC East Team
Philadelphia Eagles
1. Offensive Tackle – The Eagles are going to have to repair their offensive line in more than one spot. Left tackle Jason Peters is getting up in age (34) and is on the books until 2019, which means he’ll have to restructure his contract at some point. For most veterans at this stage in their career, that is more of a tug of war between players/agents and front offices. In the case of Philly wanting to eye a younger option, they are sitting in a very good spot at 13th overall. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley out of Notre Dame is a solid choice and that’s if he falls out of the top ten. Taylor Decker and Jack Conklin are also options but they may be a slight reach at 13.
2. Pass Rusher – The hire of Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator means that the 3-4 base defense is coming to an end. With the move to 4-3, the team may be in need of a pass rusher with 3-4 OLBs Connor Barwin and Brandon Graham being more natural 3-4 edge rushers. The resigning of Vinny Curry was one important step but the team may be searching for a guy in the middle rounds to stick their hand in the ground. Keep an eye on Oklahoma’s Charles Tapper and Penn State’s Carl Nassib.
3. Offensive Guard – The guard position probably holds as much importance to the Eagles plans as the offensive tackle position. Taking a guard at 13 will more than likely not be in the Eagles strategic outlook but they may look to shore the position either in the later rounds or in free agency. If they want a selection in the middle rounds, Denver Kirkland out of Arkansas as well as Landon Turner out of UNC could be called upon.
