NFL Draft: Three Draft Needs For Each NFC East Team
Dallas Cowboys
1. Inside Linebacker – With starter Rolando McClain an unrestricted free agent, I’m not totally confident in his return. The starter next to him (Sean Lee) is constantly banged up, although Lee is reliable when he isn’t on injured reserve. The linebacker class in this upcoming draft have a number of capable options and while sitting in a great position at fourth overall, Dallas has an opportunity to grab an elite inside linebacker in UCLA’s Myles Jack. If they opt to go in a different direction in the first round, round two presents options as well with Missouri’s Kentrell Brothers or Tyler Matakevich in the third round.
2. Running Back – The signing of Darren McFadden was successful for the most part as he totaled 1,089 yards and three touchdowns, he is definitely not a long term answer and the team can continue to showcase their belief in their talented offensive line. Reports have surfaced recently that Dallas may look to Ezekiel Elliott at fourth overall. It’s possible but less likely. Options for Dallas at RB in round two, three, or four include: Devontae Booker, Paul Perkins, Kelvin Taylor, and CJ Prosise.
3. Backup Quarterback – It needs to happen and it needs to happen as soon as possible. QB Tony Romo will soon be 36 and has an injury history filled with back injuries, collarbone, and shoulder injuries. Romo is one hit away from being back on injured reserve and the team relying on a journeyman veteran as they did in 2015 with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel. Rumors has dispelled taking a quarterback at fourth overall with California QB Jared Goff. If they want to wake until later, QB Cardale Jones would be an intriguing selection for Dallas.
