It’s Too Soon For Los Angeles Rams To Extend Jeff Fisher
By Erik Lambert
The problem is logic can’t always dictate the direction of a team. Instinct and facts must play a part as well, and the latter aren’t lining up in Fisher’s favor. To review, the man was head coach of the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans from 1994 to 2010. During that time his teams made the playoffs six times. That’s in a total of 17 seasons.
He has now been in charge of the Rams since 2012, a span of four seasons during which he hasn’t posted a record better than 7-9. Nowhere is his seeming inability to get over the hump better explained than the quarterback position. Since he arrived, the organization has seen six different players start at least five games under center.
Why are the Rams willing place more of their future in the hands of a man who seems to have lost his touch where it matters most? The least they could do is make him earn it by postponing talks until after the season to see if he can work better under pressure. Stability is nice and all, but look at what its gotten the Cincinnati Bengals. Year after year of the same ineptitude in the playoffs.
Fisher hasn’t even made it that far. There comes a time when a mans’ reputation should no longer afford him extra chances. For Jeff Fisher and the Los Angeles Rams, that time should be now.
