NFL Combine Scouting Notes: Running Backs
Now I have a big time riser. Keith Marshall from Georgia. He came into Georgia his freshman year with another stud who is now dominating the NFL: Todd Gurley. Marshall and Gurley became the best tandem in the country as true freshman and both were looking like top picks in their respective drafts. After a few injuries to Marshall he stayed an extra year to help his case, but got lost in the shuffle with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel coming in as highly recruited running backs.
Fast forward to the combine, and Keith Marshall blew out the competition with a 4.31 time in the 40. He wrecked the drill for everyone else. Teams are now going back into his film to see what they missed. Unfortunately he did not participate in the rest of the drills and workouts and that is something I was hoping to see. There was one last thing that is going to help his case: 25 reps on the bench. He isn’t a huge guy and clearly has the speed, but to show strength like that, teams are definitely looking to see if Marshall is only a complimentary back or if he can work into a lead back at the next level.
