It’s not hard to see.  The Los Angeles Rams are a quarterback away from competing in the NFC.  They know they have enough talent with a strong defense and dynamic rushing attack.  What they haven’t had is even a modestly decent passing game to bring it all together.  Sam Bradford, Austin Davis, Sean Hill, Nick Foles and Case Keenum have been failed experiments.

It’s clear they tried every way they could to avoid using a high draft choice at the position, but it hasn’t worked.  This team needs make that investment now, in 2016 or ownership will bring in a coach and GM who will.  That is why rumors are hot they intend to do so.  Based on this, who are some names that make the most sense?

Jared Goff (Cal)

He would make sense for anybody, however there is a specific reason Goff is listed.  He’s ready to play immediately.  The Rams need a quarterback with knowledge of how to run a pro-style offense, being able to utilize the play action that is almost certain to be a big part of the scheme what with Pro Bowl star Todd Gurley in the backfield.  Goff is an accurate pass who can rack up lots of points when he’s not pressured.

Connor Cook (Michigan State)

He ran a classic pro-style attack at Michigan State for three years, won the most games of any quarterback in this class (including a Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl), and had no qualms about feeding the running game.  Connor Cook is getting a lot of flak for being somewhat selfish and lacking in leadership, but Jeff Fisher has a way of coaching through such problems.  Cook may be selfish, but he does the right things.  That’s important too.

Christian Hackenberg (Penn State)

If by some chance the Rams aren’t able to secure one of the first two, then their last legitimate chance is Christian Hackenberg before the talent in the draft takes a dip.  From a mental and mechanical standpoint, the Penn State standout still isn’t ready.  At the same time he came up in a more advanced offensive scheme.  He knows how to play from under center, has a solid arm and can get hot when he’s allowed to survey the field.

Provided Los Angeles comes away with one of these guys, there is reason for optimism about their future back on the west coast.
