Ohio State. Eli Apple. 25. player. 55. Things started to come around for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense late in the season. They played some good football in the playoffs and the biggest surprise was their secondary. However, free agency threatens to shake things up so there is little harm in them looking to keep funneling young talent into the back end. With no top safeties available, cornerback will suffice.
The allure of Eli Apple is obvious. At 6’1″ he has the ideal size for a 3-4 cornerback along with the desired athleticism. He’s tough in press coverage both with his physicality and his ability to mirror receivers. His primary problems lay in his discipline and mechanics. Gets caught grabbing too often, leading to penalties and also doesn’t trust his eyes at times when he watches the quarterback. Two things he’ll need good coaching to work through.
.
