Shawn Oakman still looks great, but underachieves

By far the biggest puzzle of the 2016 NFL draft is Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman.  Just by the look of the man, he should be a dominant force up front yet time and time again he is unable to consistently show that on the field.  Most of it is underdevelopment, both in lower body strength and simple technique.  Also questions abound with his motor.

There is no doubt he will become a “boom-or-bust” prospect.  That is to say his physical potential makes it possible for him to become that dominant force he’s capable of.  At the same time it would require the effort level and technique understanding to catch up.  That doesn’t always happen for draft prospects.
