22. player. 10. Already being loaded with talent affords the Carolina Panthers to take more calculated risks than some other teams. Given the questionable state of their edge rush with age catching up to a number of their players, they take advantage of a huge opportunity and deal to move up and grab Clemson standout Shaq Lawson.
He was one of the top pass rushers in college football this season with 12.5 sacks. His size and strength are trademarks of a classic right end in a 4-3 defense, able to set the edge against the run but retaining enough quickness and athleticism to beat tackles around the edge to the quarterback. Lawson is still raw and inexperienced in several areas, but he’s starting to figure it out and would benefit greatly learning from Ron Rivera.
.
