DE. Oregon. DeForest Buckner. 12. player. 15. There are a number of needs the New Orleans Saints need to address from the secondary to offensive guard and perhaps another wide receiver for Drew Brees. However, the nature of how this 1st round has gone compels them to not reach at those positions. Instead they opt to beef up their defensive front.
DeForest Buckner is considered perhaps the ideal 3-4 defensive end. Not only strong and stout against the run, but possessing significant length and lower body drive that allows him to generate pass rush. He’s able to split double teams and uses good leverage to knife into the backfield and harass the quarterback. Putting him across from Cameron Jordan and Hau’oli Kikaha could alter the entire picture of that defense.
