Seattle Seahawks: WR Doug Baldwin making loud noise

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is tied for the league lead in touchdown receptions, and has made some loud noise in 2015…

As the Seahawks just lost to the St. Louis Rams, I feel compelled to point something out that I don’t think many have pointed out this season…

Doug Baldwin is awesome.

The guy who has showed up in some huge situations in the playoffs and earned a three-year contract extension from the Seahawks has now emerged as one of the best receivers in the league, and is tied for the league’s lead with 14 touchdown catches.

It’s clear that the Seahawks’ passing game has evolved quite a bit this season, and Baldwin has been its biggest benefactor. He leads the Seahawks in targets, receptions, yards, big plays of 20 yards or more, and obviously touchdowns. He’s become more than just a player who shows up with a big play or two in the clutch — he’s been consistently great, and the results this year have been fabulous.

The thing that I love about Baldwin is the variety of ways he is able to make plays. He can line up out wide or in the slot, and can beat you with speed deep, he can beat you with quickness to the middle of the field, or he can beat you after the catch. He’s also effective in the red area but the Seahawks also know that when they need a big first down, Baldwin can provide it.

In the last five games, Baldwin has reached the end zone 11 times, and has given Seattle a legitimate number one target in the passing game.

Though they just lost to the Rams, they can have comfort knowing Baldwin has emerged from being just a really solid regular season player and hero in the playoffs to one of the best receivers in Seahawks regular season history. Only twice in the history of the team has a receiver put up the kind of numbers (1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns) that Baldwin has done.

Those players? Steve Largent and Joey Galloway.

No Seahawks receiver has ever posted 14 touchdowns in a single season. Baldwin had scored 15 regular season touchdowns in his entire career up to this point, and heading into the playoffs, he’s one of the hottest receivers in the NFL.
